21st Century Gallery in the Park , Whitworth Art Gallery
The redevelopment of the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester is gaining momentum with the news of a successful Stage 2 Application to the Heritage Lottery Fund and Planning Application Approval. Appleyard & Trew are appointed by the University of Manchester as Cost Consultants for development to create a 21st Century Gallery in the Park. With this news the £12m project is programmed to commence on site in January 2012.

New Promotions Announced
The Partners are delighted to announce the promotion of Russell Husbands to the position of Partner, and Kevin McGloin to the position of Associate Partner as part of the Practice’s continued expansion and success of the London Office.

Russell has worked with Appleyard & Trew for 10 years and has a broad range of experience in a variety of sectors.  Recently involved with Retail, Banking and Housing Clients, Russell has detailed experience in complex procurement and negotiation.  His commitment, positive attitude and ability to communicate clearly have proved invaluable to his work within the Practice and in his hobby of performing in a highly acclaimed covers band.

Kevin joined the Practice in December 2009, and has 10 years of Quantity Surveying and Employer's Agent experience across a broad range of sectors.  During the last 12 months, Kevin has continued to work within Retail, Education and Commercial Property sectors, and has also developed a specialism in reviewing Contractor insolvency claims for a major residential warranty and insurance provider. Kevin hopes one day to run a second marathon, this time under 4 hours.

University of Salford Masterplan Winner
Appleyard & Trew has won the appointment to provide Cost Management services for the first phase of the University’s £575 million, 20 years Estate Masterplan. The initial phase includes provision of a new £50 million Arts, Music and Performance Building, Public Realm and Infrastructure Works alongside a detailed review of temporary accommodation, refurbishment, move management and enabling works for future phases.

Clapham Manor wins Civic Trust Award
Winner of 2010 Civic Trust Award – Outstanding contribution to the quality and appearance of the environment and having a positive impact on the local community. "This extension to the existing primary school is a robust, beautiful and modern building which extends and complements the older school. The new building is exceptional in its' quality of design and is stunning both externally and internally" Civic Trust Awards Jury. Described by the Architect's Journal as "like finding a finely polished Rubik’s cube that’s been dropped in a garden" , the extension to Clapham Manor Primary School was also short listed for the RIBA Stirling Prize in 2010. This project continues a relationship with the Architects, dRMM (de Rijke Marsh Morgan), which has included The Dura (BSF Exemplar Design) and Kingsdale School, London.
